You were my first image of a black woman in sci-fi and I cannot tell you how much that has shaped how I've seen myself in the sense that we can do and achieve anything. You were the reason I was immediately hooked onto Star Trek and found my comfort when times got tough; the image of a strong, independent, powerful woman on the bridge never failed to give me the boost to get on with it.
