I grew up around racist family members and Star Trek, including the Lieutenant Uhura charater portrayed by Nichelle Nichols, taught me that my family was wrong in their archaic beliefs and to not judge anyone by the color of their skin or their country of origin. I learned that people from different parts of the world can all work individually and together towards a common goal.
