As a white boy from England, even growing up around black and brown kids, I was conditioned to the faces on my TV being white. That changed with Start Trek and Lt. Uhura. It helped me by normalizing the idea that the people who shape our world, solar system, and universe did not have to look like me. And when it came down to it, the alien races didn't think of us as as anything but humans.. SciFi taught me empathy and compassion and that was because of you.
