When I was little, I wanted to be Uhura. It's as simple as that. She was smart, powerful, and in a high ranking position. That was all I needed to know. The fact that I, as a little girl, never considered that she is Black and I am white. All I knew is that she was amazing. I was lucky enough to meet her many years later, at the Catalina Island premiere of the Star Trek movie with Chris Pine. She was the loveliest woman. Off to new frontiers, Nichelle.
