I am old enough to remember, when the series Star Trek was in syndication as a boy. Watching Lt. Uhura and other black actors of the period instilled in my generation the pride of place that we too could become memorable, capable human beings. It was common at the time for black Americans to take great pride in seeing black actors in speaking, acting roles that did not denigrate them or us. Nichelle Nichols is a profound individual who is beloved and honored for giving us dignity.
